Not About Heroes
“...but about war and the pity of war.” (Wilfred Owen). The Eastgate Theatre presents Stephen Macdonald’s superb play about the friendship between First World War poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon, forged at Craiglockhart Hospital for Nervous Diseases in Edinburgh. From very different backgrounds, the two men were bonded by their creativity, their doubts about the war, and their bravery. This is a strong production with local connection through director, John Haswell who founded Borders Youth Festival which in turn spawned the actors Oliver Bisset (Sasoon) and Matthew Burgess (Owen). By Rowan Tree Theatre Company.
