News from Cringletie Hotel

Hot from the press

We have just been informed that we have been awarded the Gold Award 2008 of the so prestigious Andrew Harper Collection. Andrew Harper is a top-travel guide in the USA and it works by invitation only. And to achieve this award is quite an achievement, for we have been in their portfolio for less than 6 months.

Here in Scotland, right now and until 31st January, voting is taking place for the Scottish Hotel of the Year award. Cringletie has been nominated for The Scottish National Hotel of the Year 2008. If you think we deserve it, then please give us your vote.

The Eastgate - w/c 31 January 2008

Eastgate Film Sunday is back! Due to popular demand... so many people have been asking at the Box Office we just had to!, we are bringing back the Eastgate Film Sundays.
Pick up an up-to-date leaflet at the Box Office, or check the press for details. We have some terrific films lined up for you…children’s films in the afternoon and films for the grown-ups at night. Films coming up are “The Bee Movie” a cartoon comedy about a bee who decides to talk to humans with hilarious results, “Alvin & The Chipmunks” a cartoon caper with singing chipmunks making it big on the music scene. The pace changes when we show the amazing film “The Golden Compass” bringing Phillip Pullman’s ‘Dark Matter’ to life. Nicholas Cage brings the American Civil War to life in the action-packed children’s thriller “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”. The grown-ups have a selection of what we hope are both thought-provoking and enjoyable films kicking off with the entertaining “Jane Austen Book Club” which demonstrates that the emotions and situations Jane wrote about so many years ago can still be relevant today. Bob Dylan has 6 different actors (including one woman) playing him at different ages in his life in the suitably named “I’m Not There”! For anyone who loved Truly Madly Deeply... get along to see another poignant love story that breaks the boundaries of death…"P.S I Love You” Bring your hankies! Afghanistan provides the backdrop for “The Kite Runner” a story about the meaning of true loyalty and unconditional love.

THU 31st JAN
Rowan Tree Theatre Company: Barry
Drama
7.30pm
Frederic Mohr's fascinating play tells the story of the woman who – in order to become the first female doctor – had to become another male doctor. Premiered to unanimous acclaim in the USA in 1983 and subsequently seen in Scotland in a production by the Traverse Theatre, the play now receives an overdue revival, directed by John Carnegie for Rowan Tree Theatre Company. Mohr and Carnegie's collaboration renews a much-praised partnership that has produced four previous hit shows, and follows a string of hugely successful productions by Rowan Tree at The Eastgate Theatre in recent years including their sell out show “The Journey of Jeannie Deans”.

A recent college graduate, Barry B. Benson wants more out of life than the inevitable career that awaits him and every other worker in New Hive City--a job at Honex making honey. Barry jumps at the chance to venture out of the hive, and soon encounters a world beyond his wildest dreams. When Barry inadvertently meets a quirky florist named Vanessa, he breaks one of the cardinal rules of beedom--he talks to her. A friendship soon develops, and Barry gets a guided crash course in the ways of the human race. When he shockingly discovers that anyone can purchase honey right off the grocery store shelf, he realizes that his true calling is to stop this injustice and set the world right by suing the human race for stealing the bees' precious honey.

Jane Austen Book Club (18)
7.30pm 100mins
Six Californians start Jane Austen Book Club to talk about her novels. Austen's plots are used to reflect what the characters in the film, and maybe the audience as well, are experiencing in their own lives. The film acknowledges Jane’s books as far as completeness of characters and depth of feelings and is beautifully shot in a warm feelgood way. All in all “It’s what might be called the ultimate in character empathy - Austen style.

Scottish firebrands Breabach are one of the most talked about new acts on the scene. Their innovative celtic style, blending double bagpipes, fiddle, whistle and guitar, has won them acclaim with audiences at home and abroad.
Breabach are commended not just for their strathspeys and reels but also for their sympathetic treatment of traditional songs and slower melodies.
